About
Gerda J Wolker has been painting for most of her life. As a child in Germany she has enjoyed many hours in the art gallery of her hometown Kassel, and was always inspired by the old masters and contemporary artists.
She has an honour degree in Fashion, as well as in Interior Design and Architecture.
Her love of travel is reflected in her paintings. Many of her works are done en plein air.
She often switches her paintbrush for a photographers lens.
She is inspired by wild natural landscapes, the smallest of flora and the amazing still lives nature creates. The straight lines and abstract shapes of the manmade architecture, which is in stark contrast to nature also fascinates her.
In her studio she turns her photography into paintings done in Watercolours, mixed media or acrylics.
“The question is not what you look at, but what you see”
~ by Henry David Thoreau from his journal, August 5, 1851~
has become the inspiration for her work.
